The music of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is so magnificently developed that it is easy to forget that like other composers he also had to learn his craft and develop a personal style through the study of past and contemporary music.
This lecture takes a look at the wide range of Bach’s compositions – his use of chorale, fugue, variation, sonata and concerto form – that shape and mould Bach into the great composer that we know him to be.
