Hatfield House in Hertfordshire is one of the finest Jacobean houses in the country. It was built between 1607 and 1612 by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James 1st.
The lecture tells the story of this remarkable building, while at the same time evaluating the role that Robert Cecil created for himself, as one of the great music patrons of his day.
