The musical world of Salzburg in Austria is far more than the dwelling place of the Mozart family, or even the setting for the 1965 film of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Since as early as the 16th century, the brilliant organist Paul Hofhaimer worked at the court, and by 1570, the great Orlando Lassus was dedicating choral music to the Prince Archbishop, for performance in the Cathedral.
Among others, the lecture explores works by Stefano Bernardi, Heinrich Biber, Michael Haydn, and Leopold Mozart, to show that these court musicians produced works of international standard.
